Chamber music festival offers young performers int’l exposure

Thirty-one young musicians from Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam will perform during the Saigon Chamber Music Festival 2016 from August 11-19.

The only festival of its kind in the city, it aims to foster young talent and provide them with international opportunities.

The event, which is held annually, is organised by the Transposition Programme and the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music in co-ordination with the Goethe Institute Vietnam.

Musicians will receive instruction from international musicians during the one-week festival.

Pianist Antonia Köster and violinist Sindri Lederer from Germany, together with cellist Zoë Martlew of the UK and violist Juliet White-Smith of the US, will conduct courses at the summer academy this year.

The four musicians will demonstrate their talent at the opening chamber concert On Wings of Song in Ho Chi Minh City on August 11 and in Danang on August 21.

On August 18 at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, the participants will play in the Young Virtuosi concert themed Dance away Time as the grand finale of the music festival.

Tickets are VND250,000-300,000 (US$12-US$14) for the On Wings of Song concert and VND100,000-150,000 for the Dance away Time concert. They are available at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.

Founded in 2014, Saigon Chamber Music is the first summer music festival providing professional training and opportunities for international exposure to gifted young artists as they begin their careers.
