Director Nguyen Huu Muoi’s 'Scent of Burnt Grass' has been selected to compete for the 85th Oscar’s Best Foreign Language Film category.
  • Golden Kite Award winners announced

The film features four Hanoian students, namely Hoang, Thanh, Thang and Long, who joined the army during the resistance war against US aggression in 1971.

They were trained very fast and then sent to the Quang Tri ancient citadel battlefield. Three of them died in heavy fighting, only Hoang luckily returned home on Vietnam’s Reunifcation Day (April 30, 1975). His experience of the 81 day-and-night fighting in the citadel and Thach Han river area is unforgettable.

In Vietnam, Scent of Burnt Grass has received a number of important awards, most recently the best film and best editor in the 2011 Golden Kite Award.

According to Director Bui Dinh Hac, Chairman of the National Council of Film Selection, Scent of Burnt Grass is an epic which successfully illustrates the noble spirit of a young Vietnamese generation, ready to scarify for national freedom and independence.
