Thailand topped the medal tally with 115 golds, 94 silvers and 71 bronzes, followed by hosts Indonesia with 107 golds, 99 slivers and 83 bronzes and Malaysia with 50 golds, 34 silvers and 42 bronzes.
Nguyen Thi Hai bagged three golds in the javelin, discus and weightlifting events, and set a new Games record in the women’s javelin with a throw of 25.28m, breaking her own previous record of 19.58m set in 2005.
Vietnamese track-and-field athlete Trinh Cong Luan also won a gold medal in the discus event with a throw of 32.33m, breaking his previous 2001 record of 32.11m. Ngo Xuan Doan also set a record in the men’s high jump, clearing 1.68m and beating the previous record of 1.58m set in 2001.
Swimmer Vo Huynh Anh Khoa won two golds and set two records in the men’s 100m and 50m freestyle. Meanwhile, Vo Thanh Tung also won a gold medal and set a new record in the men’s 50m freestyle.
Vietnamese badminton players also contributed two golds to the total.
