The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) held a press briefing in Hanoi on July 6 to announce the 48th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which will be held in Vietnam for the first time from July 25-26.

The organizing board said around 600 contestants from 100 countries and territories will take part in the IMO.

The organisation of the IMO aims to encourage students to study mathematics and create favourable conditions for countries to exchange information on the curriculum in schools.

The MoET has coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, airports and customs to help contestants through immigration procedures.

So far, many companies have provided donations to the IMO such as FPT, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, CMS Company and Hanoi Telecom.
