VND2.6 trillion invested to enhance southern electricity network

The Southern Power Corporation of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN SPC) put into use 19 new 110kV power lines with combined investment of 2.63 billion VND (115.8 million USD) in the first half of the year.

In addition, the corporation started construction of 26 power works.

Nguyen Phuoc Duc, deputy director of the SPC said that the new electricity lines have helped met power demand for economic development in 21 southern localities and ensure electricity supply in the dry season of 2017 in key economic areas like Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc and Long An provinces.

As of June 20, the corporation had conducted repair of 613 power lines at a cost of VND501.1 billion (US$22.1 million), of which 262 works have been completed.

Investment in building and repairing power lines has contributed to enhance quality of the national grid, ensure stable supply and reduce the loss of electricity.

In the time ahead, in accordance to the Prime Minister’s instruction at the conference on development of Vietnam’s shrimp sector, the SPC will invest five trillion VND (US$220.05 million) in improving electricity supply for shrimp farming areas.

Besides, it is working on a project to build a 220kV power line to Phu Quoc Island. The construction is expected to start in December 2017.
