Almost 2,300 tons of beef imported into Vietnam in 2 months

VOV.VN - Vietnam spent more than US$15 million on importing nearly 2,300 tons of beef from Australia and the US in the first two months of this year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

In the period, Vietnam imported 1,349 tons of beef worth US$8.9 million from the US and 948 tons valuing at US$6.6 million from Australia.

Last year, the country bought 210 tons of beef ribs and 3,901 tons of beef from Australia and 353 tons of beef ribs and 6,085 tons of beef from the US.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, more than 6,500 tons of pork worth US$11.07 million and over 81,000 tons of poultry meat valued at US$75.7 million were imported last year. In addition, Vietnam bought more than 262,000 live buffaloes and cows and nearly 42,000 tons of different types of meat from other countries.

Totally, the country paid more than US$410 million (around VND9,500 billion) for imported buffalo meat and beef last year.
