Japan targets higher rice exports to Vietnam
VOV.VN - A Japan rice export association has launched an initiative to sell more rice to Vietnam, taking advantage of the rising middle class’s appetite in the Southeast Asian nation for Japanese cuisine.
Minoru Yoneda, director of the Japan Rice and Rice Product Export Promotion Association (JRE) told reporters on August 1 that the JRE aims to increase the amount of rice and rice products exported in Southeast Asia by first focusing on Vietnam.
At the promotional event in Ho Chi Minh City, he said, “Our goal is to expand Japanese culinary culture by highlighting the merits of Japanese rice at events like these.”
We are confident that we can use Vietnam as a “strategic springboard” to spread Japanese culinary culture in Southeast Asia and fuel heightened interest in Japanese rice products, he noted.
