State President commemorates Hung Kings

VOV.VN - State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on April 21 offered incense to commemorate the Hung Kings believed to be the founders of the Vietnamese nation thousands of years ago on their death anniversary that falls on the 10th day of the third lunar month.

Many other Vietnamese leaders, including Politburo members Vo Van Thuong, and Truong Thi Mai, joined President Phuc at the ceremony.

Offering incense to the Hung Kings, the Vietnamese Party and State leaders showed their respect for the founders of the nation and prayed for a peaceful and prosperous Vietnamese nation.

The ceremony is part of the Hung Kings Temple festival taking place in the northern midland province of Phu Tho, believed to be the cradle of the Vietnamese nation and civilization.

In his oration, Bui Van Quang, chairman of the Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee, spoke highly of the Hung Kings’ great contributions to the founding of the Van Lang state thousands of years ago, now the Vietnamese state.

He praised the predecessors for their rebellious and resilient spirit in building, defending and developing the nation, while reporting on present-day Vietnam’s notable achievements in socio-economic development and international integration.

Hung Kings’ death anniversary is a traditional festival of the Vietnamese people to commemorate the founders of the nation. The traditional ceremony is held annually on the 10th of the third lunar month at the Hung Kings Temple in Viet Tri City of Phu Tho province and is celebrated by the Vietnamese people all over the world.

The death anniversary of the Hung Kings is a valuable opportunity for the Vietnamese people at home and abroad to strengthen the country’s long lasting tradition of gratitude, patriotism as well as to enhance national unity.

The worship of the Hung Kings has been recognized by UNESCO as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
