VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin highlighted parliamentary cooperation as one of the important pillars of Vietnam-Russia relations at their meeting on the margins of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-140) in Doha, Qatar on April 7.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (L) and Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin
The top Vietnamese legislator hailed the growing political ties between the two countries over the past years via regular exchange visits via the Party, State, local, business and social organisation channels.

Ngan called for mutual support for priority tasks and celebrations during the Vietnam Year in Russia and the Russia Year as both nations are actively preparing the event this year and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on fundamental principles of Vietnam – Russia friendship and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties by 2020.

The leaders also hailed the establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Vietnamese legislature in December 2018.
The NA chief expressed her confidence that the commission would make significant contributions to ties between the two legislative bodies.

The two sides need to maintain exchange visits by the two legislatures’ officials, their committees and friendship parliamentarians’ groups, promote the supervision of signed agreements and cooperation projects, build and fine-tune legal framework in support of the two countries’ governments, localities, businesses and people, facilitate exchange, consultation and mutual support at multilateral parliamentary forums.

Volodin, in turn, said he hopes that ties between Russia and Vietnam will grow and flourish in the time ahead.
