ADB provides loans for urban environment upgrade

(VOV) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Vietnamese Government on November 8 signed agreements for two loans and a non-refundable grant worth nearly US$166 million to improve urban environment and climate resilient infrastructure in three local cities.

The funding is destined to help increase the use of community health care services and their quality in five Central Highlands provinces, and enhance access to livelihood and income opportunities for the poor in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) corridor town.

The first US$95 million loan from the ADB’s Asian Development Fund (ADF) will help Buon Ma Thuot, Ha Tinh, and Tam Ky improve their solid waste management, upgrade roads, reinforce flood dikes and regulate basins for flood prevention.

The second US$70 million ADF loan will be used to carry out a healthcare project in the Central Highlands provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, and Lam Dong.

The grant agreement worth US$833,000 is funded by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) aiming to implement a livelihood support project in the GMS corridor.

The project will help transform the GMS transport corridors into economic corridors by creating livelihood and income opportunities for street vendors and providing training courses for township and city cadres.

It is scheduled for completion in May 2017.
