Locals in Long Tan Commune, Nhon Trach District, seized 25-year-old Pham Van Manh after he used an ice-cutting knife to stab twin 7-month-old baby girls, Nguyen Vy Phuong and Nguyen Phuong Vy, to death, and injured three women and a boy, at 1:30 pm on June 20.
The injured women were Ho Thi Pham, 83, Tran Thi Xinh, 55, and Pham Thi Gai, and the wounded boy was 7-year-old Pham Duy Truong.
All of them suffered injuries on their head and arms and were taken to the Dong Nai General Hospital.
“Manh has a wife and a 4-year-old daughter. He has been addicted to drugs for several months,” said Xinh, who is Manh’s mother. “He was undergoing detoxification at home. When I saw him stabbing people, I tried to stop him and he then attacked both me and his sister, Gai.”
According to witnesses, Manh committed the crime while he was in a state of shock due to his drug abuse.
Before this deadly attack, he had tried to stab another woman who was carrying her child on a motorbike, but luckily he missed the stab, witnesses said.
He then turned to strike a man driving a motorbike.
Local police have detained Manh for investigation.
