According to the province’s Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, there have been a total of 13 ASF outbreaks in seven of the 11 districts and towns in An Giang province. This has resulted in a total of 396 pigs being culled.

The provincial People’s Committee has provided nearly VND17 billion from the local budget to the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in order to take drastic measures to prevent the further spread of the ASF epidemic.

The provincial People’s Committee has also requested that members of the  local steering committee for cattle and poultry disease prevention and localities in the region increase their responsibility and place an even higher priority on drastic measures aimed at stamping out the ASF epidemic.

In addition, more quarantine checkpoints have also been set up so as to strictly supervise the transportation of pigs and pork products through the region.

Affected localities are required to closely monitor the number of pig-farming households and pig flocks in the region to prevent further outbreaks of ASF and devise concrete plans to safeguard high risk locations close to infected areas.
