Consulate General in Guangzhou marks 68 years of Vietnam-China ties

The Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou city, China’s Guangdong province, recently hosted a banquet in celebration of the 68th founding anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties (January 18, 1950).

The event saw the presence of Guangdong and Guangzhou officials along with representatives of Vietnamese people and businesses in the Chinese province.

Addressing the banquet, Vietnamese Consul General in Guangzhou Dang The Hung said since the diplomatic ties were founded 68 years ago, the Vietnam-China traditional friendship has been unceasingly enhanced.

The Vietnamese Party, State and people always keep in mind the precious support that the Chinese Party, State and people gave to the country’s struggle for national liberation. They always wish to work together with the Chinese side in developing the countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in a stable, healthy and sustainable manner.

Hung noted that 2017 was an important year for both countries. While Vietnam successfully hosted the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, China also successfully organised the 19th National Party Congress. The top leaders of the two Parties and States also paid mutual visits in one year for the first time.

In 2017, bilateral trade was estimated at about US$100 billion, and Vietnam remained the biggest ASEAN trade partner of China.

The Consul General also highlighted that cooperation mechanisms between Vietnamese ministries and localities and Guangdong province continued to be implemented effectively last year. Their economic, cultural, scientific-technological, and tourism cooperation maintained the growing trend. Vietnam’s trade with Guangdong reached US$26.7 billion in the first 11 months of 2017.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam and the Guangdong People’s Government held the 6th meeting to review cooperation between Vietnamese localities and the Chinese province. They also approved a cooperation plan for 2017-2019, he added.

In his speech, Deputy Secretary-General of the Guangdong provincial People’s Government Gu Xingwei shared the view that over the last 68 years, the China-Vietnam friendship has remained a valuable asset of the two peoples.

He stressed the successful visit to Vietnam by Chinese President Xi Jinping last November shortly after China’s 19th National Party Congress demonstrated the close-knit relationship of the two countries as neighbours, fellow socialist countries and important partners. Cooperation between Guangdong and Vietnamese localities has also gained numerous achievements in various fields.

Gu affirmed that China wants to together with Vietnam consolidate the stable growth of bilateral trade and promote win-win cooperation to a new height.
