COVID-19: 33 further community infections, including 22 detected in Danang

VOV.VN - Vietnam recorded 33 new local infections, with all in quarantine areas, and two additional imported cases in Long An and An Giang provinces on May 13 morning, according to the Health Ministry.

Among the new cases, 20 were reported in central Danang city, northern Bac Ninh province and capital Hanoi registered three each, and northern Vinh Phuc and Bac Giang provinces two each.

One day earlier, Vietnam documented a total 82 cases of local transmission in 11 provinces and cities, with the central city of Da Nang topping the list with 27.

To date, the nation has confirmed a total of 3,658 COVID-19 cases, including 2,213 domestic infections, 1,445 imported cases, and 2,636 recoveries.

At a recent online working session with the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital (Hospital K), Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said the pandemic in the two medical facilities, the two COVID-19 hotspot in capital Hanoi has been brought under control.

It is imperative to scrutinize regulations, instructions, and procedures in patient treatment areas to avoid cross-transmission and the spread of the virus to the wider community, Tuyen said, adding that more than 80 of COVID-19 patients in this latest wave of the outbreak are not dependent on ventilators.

However, he asked the two hospitals to ensure their sufficient facilities and equipment in order to receive coronavirus patients soon.

Since the recurrence of the virus in the nation late last month, the country documented a total of 643 cases of local transmission, with Hanoi recording the highest number at 166.

According to the Expanded National Immunization Programme, as many as 942,030 frontline healthcare workers along with members of community-based anti-COVID-19 groups have been injected with the COVID-19 vaccine, with a total of 26,182 being inoculated in 40 provinces and cities on May 12.
