COVID-19: Hai Duong remains biggest hotbed with more 37 fresh cases detected

VOV.VN - An additional 37 new local transmissions of COVID-19 were diagnosed positive with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the northern province of Hai Duong, the Ministry of Health reported on February 4 morning.

According to the Hai Duong Center for Disease Control, within 1 day (from 15:00 February 2 to 15:00  February 3), the province recorded 53 positive SARS-CoV-2 cases, including 37 being workers of POYUN Company based in Chi Linh City, the biggest COVID-19 epicenter in the province. These workers' second test results came back positive for the virus but their first results were negative.

With the new infections, Hai Duong province has so far registered 277 locally-infected cases in total.

As such, the number of community cases since January 27 has reached 366, bringing the total number of patients infected locally nationwide to 1,059.

Meanwhile, Hanoi capital is pushing ahead with COVID-19 containment efforts by strictly controlling high-risk places such as industrial parks and schools, and handling with any violations.

According to the municipal Party Committee, the capital city is sparing no efforts in ensuring the dual target of containing the pandemic and sustaining socio-economic development.

The Vice Chairman of Hoan Kiem District in Hanoi proposed that municipal authorities officially stop activities on pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem lake from this week, starting from February 5 as part of stronger measures to slow the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic.

Hanoi had posted 21 cases of community transmission since January 27, all linked to hotspots in Chi Linh city in Hai Duong province and Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh province.

As of 6 a.m February 4, Vietnam had recorded 1,948 COVID-19 cases, including 1,059 cases of community transmission, and 889 imported cases.

The nation has to date confirmed 366 community infections COVID-19 in 10 localities since January 28, with Hai Duong topping the list with 277, followed by Quang Ninh 42, and Hanoi 21.
