COVID-19: Vietnam records one imported case from France
VOV.VN - A 25-year-old Vietnamese citizen was reported to carry the SARS-CoV-2 virus after entering Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on March 9, the Ministry of Health said in its March 23 COVID-19 update.
The same day, 12 further coronavirus patients were declared to be clear of the virus, raising the total recoveries in the nation to 2,234.
Of the figure, 1,601 involve cases of local transmission, in addition to 975 imported ones.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been initially brought under good control in Vietnam, with Hai Duong, the epicenter of the nation's biggest coronavirus outbreak, having gone the 5th consecutive day without any new local cases.
Ten provinces and cities have not registered fresh cases in the community for more than a month.
Over 37,750 people are in the process of being quarantined nationwide as part of the nation’s COVID-19 containment efforts, while 108 cases have also tested negative for the virus at least one.
Most notably, March 23 also saw 15 more volunteers vaccinated with COVIVAC, the nation’s second locally-produced vaccine. The vaccine will also be injected into 15 other volunteers on March 25.
Under the process of being developed by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) since last May, COVIVAC is the result of co-operation between IVAC and a number of partners. This includes the Hanoi Medical University, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, the University of Texas in Austin, and the health organisation PATH of the United States.
This comes after the Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Company finalized the first phase of human trials of its NanoCovax vaccine and launched the second phase on February 26.
