Deputy PM lauds press for socio-economic development

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has lauded the press for contributing to socio-economic development, ensuring political security and improving Vietnam’s stature on the international arena last year.

He made the praise during a meeting with the press held in Hanoi on February 27 by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists’ Association and the Nhan dan (People) newspaper.

He said the press has vividly expressed public opinions and become an effective policy consultation channel, adding that it should further popularise information regarding the reform of State-owned enterprises and adoption of advanced technologies.

According to the Commission for Information and Education, the sector disseminated information about socio-economic tasks of ministries and agencies from early this year, thereby encouraging officials, cadres, workers, armed forces to ensure production progress and firmly safeguard the nation.

In early Lunar New Year, audio and television stations and newswires conveyed messages about patriotism, national cultural value, aspiration for peace and new opportunities towards the goal of strong country with wealthy people, democracy, fairness and civilisation.

Deputy head of the Commission for Information and Education Pham Van Linh asked press agencies to fix shortcomings and weaknesses as well as popularise the fulfillment of key political tasks this year, towards successfully implementing the Resolution adopted by the 12th National Party Congress and others by the Party Central Committee and the National Assembly.
