Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc said the agreement is expected to promote stronger relations between Vietnamese higher education institutions and Francophone peers as well as help Vietnamese universities improve governance and training quality.

Jean Paul de Gaudemar, director general of the AUF, said the association has been present in Vietnam for long and has gained plenty of experience in collaborating with Vietnamese universities.

However, in order to work together in such macro issues as development strategy, university administration, and training quality improvement, it is necessary to partner with State management agencies, he said.

He shared that three or four years ago when he first came to Vietnam, only a few of universities in the country piloted autonomy. But now, Vietnam’s tertiary education has seen impressive progresses in the field, he said.

He hoped through the agreement, the AUF will have a more important position in the network of Vietnamese universities, adding that the association’s experts will support Vietnam to implement reform.
