The Hanoi Centre for Disease Control has reported the Japanese expert who works for Mitsui Vietnam was found dead in his hotel room on February 13.

He arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on February 17 where he was placed in quarantine until January 31. The man twice tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The Japanese man flew to Hanoi on February 1 and stayed at Somerset West Point hotel in Quang An ward of Tay Ho district. He was found dead in his hotel room on February 13 and subsequent tests later proved the man had carried the virus.

Local authorities moved to track down and quarantine those who had close contact with the deceased man.

The man was found dead at around 19.00hrs on February 13, according to local police.

Local police have conducted an investigation and initially found the 54-year-old man had died suddenly in the hotel, and there were no grounds for a criminal investigation.
