Hanoi reports first death from dengue fever

The Hanoi Health Department has announced the first death from dengue fever since the beginning of this year.

The Central Tropical Diseases Hospital on May 21 confirmed that a 19-year-old student who rented a house in Dong Da District’s Trung Liet Ward died of dengue.

In Hanoi, the number of patients with dengue fever has shown a tendency of increasing since early this month, with 27 cases recorded in the last two weeks.
Since the beginning of the year, the city has recorded more than 700 cases of dengue fever, up 2.1 times compared with the same period last year, according to the statistics of the preventive health centre.

Most of the cases were reported in the districts of Dong Da, Hoang Mai, Hai Ba Trung and Thanh Xuan.

The city’s Department of Health has directed medical units to strengthen the implementation of measures to prevent the disease, particularly, providing information on the epidemic situation to locals and guiding them on how to prevent the disease.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. There is no specific vaccine and treatment for dengue.
