HCM City hopes for greater help from IFC in smart urban development

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City wishes for further coordination with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in coping with challenges in urban transport, infrastructure construction and waste treatment so as to ensure sustainable development and improve locals’ living standards.

Nguyen Thien Nhan, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee made the statement at a reception for the IFC’s CEO Philippe Houerou on August 12.

Amidst the fast growing population and semi-permanent houses accounting for just about 60% of houses in the southern metropolis, the housing sector will offer huge opportunities for construction contractors, Nhan told his guest.

In reply, Philippe Houerou showed his elation at fruitful cooperation between the two sides while affirming his corporation’s willingness to join hands with HCM City to deal with difficulties in urban development such as smart transport system building and green energy development.

The IFC will firstl work together with the city in carrying out a credit rating project and expand projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, he said.

IFC leaders will always accompany HCM City in smart urban development and believe that the city will become a model in the region and the world in this field, the IFC official stated.

The IFC is ready to partner with HCM City to resolve issues relating to the building of eco-friendly houses, urban transport development and the transformation of waste into energy, he said.
