India continues support for joint project on ICT training

India will continue providing support in terms of funding, technology and experience for Vietnam in training in information and communication technology (ICT), Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has pledged.

He made the statement at a working session with the Telecommunications University in the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa as part of activities during his visit to Vietnam on June 7.

The University, which is under the Signal Arms of the Vietnam Ministry of National Defence, put into use the first phase of a project on building a Centre for ICT and English Training in April last year, as part of the contents of a Memorandum of Understanding jointly signed by the Governments of Vietnam and India.

Rector of the University Nguyen Hoang Tuyen said the Centre has contributed to enhancing computer and English skills among the university’s students.

The second phase of the project will be carried out with consultation services provided by the Indian Tech Mahindra Group, according to Tuyen.

The Indian Defence Minister hailed the achievements of the two countries in general, and what the University and its Indian partners have gained in cooperation in national defence in particular, saying that his country will continue its support for Vietnam in implementing the second phase of the project.
