Japan’s Democratic Party talks labour with Vietnam confederation

Representatives of Japan’s Democratic Party and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) discussed labour issues during a working session on May 30, Lao dong (Labour) daily reported.

VGCL Vice President Mai Duc Chinh informed the Japanese guests about the business situation and industrial relations at Japanese enterprises in Vietnam, along with working conditions, income and aspirations of Vietnamese workers at the companies.

He also briefed them about Vietnam’s interns and students in Japan, the VGCL’s viewpoint on the increase of regional-based minimum wage, and the job-seeking efforts of interns after they returned from Japan.

Representatives of the Democratic Party, led by Deputy Secretary-General Yukio Edano – a member of Japan’s House of Representatives, shared information about their country’s labour laws, including on foreign interns in Japan.

The Democratic Party is the second biggest party in Japan, after the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. Its delegation’s working visit to Vietnam from May 28-31 is part of an agreement between the Democratic Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam.
