Lam Dong province braces for fresh typhoon

VOV.VN -Due to a mixture of cold air and the impact of the ninth typhoon of the season in the East Sea, torrential rain will hit the central highland province of Lam Dong, causing landslides, flashfloods and severe flooding, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

On November 21, Lam Dong province People’s Committee issued an urgent telegram to local authorities and other relevant units informing them to take urgent measures in preparation for the new typhoon.

As a result, localities, agencies and hydroelectric power companies in Lam Dong were requested to thoroughly monitor abnormal developments of severe weather and take drastic measures to deal with the situation.

The provincial People’s Committee, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue have coordinated together to broadcast information on the typhoon and also work at grassroots levels to put in prevention measures in a timely manner.

The communal People’s Committee, as well as other relevant units, were asked to review residential areas vulnerable to natural disasters in order to help residents prevent and evacuate from high-risk areas.

Hoang Sy Bich, deputy director of Lam Dong province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, emphasized the need to ensure the safety of hydropower dams and reservoirs in the province.

On November 17, due to the arrival of the eighth typhoon of the season, severe flooding hit the districts of Duc Trong and Don Duong in Lam Dong province, submerging more than 100 hectares of subsidiary crops and destroying many homes.
