Over 1,000 people walk in response to World Heart Day

(VOV) - More than 1,000 people took part in the "Healthy Heart” walk in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh province, on October 7 to commemorate World Heart Day.

Since 2000, the World Heart Federation (WHF) chose September’s final Sunday annually as “World Heart Day” and now more than 100 countries, including Vietnam, are members of the WHF.

At the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Heath Nguyen Thi Xuyen said high blood pressure is one of issues related to heart disease and an increasing number of people suffer from cardiovascular problems in Vietnam, as well as in many other countries around the world.

The Prime Minister has approved a national target program to prevent high blood pressure which is being implemented in 63 provinces and cities across the country.

The programme aims to raise public awareness of controlling and preventing high blood pressure and establish a grassroots model for managing the condition and providing help and treatment for patients according to regulations from the Ministry of Health (MoH).

On the occasion, the MoH coordinated with the Vietnam National Heart Association to offer free blood pressure screenings for citizens in Ha Long.
