Pakhar threatens northern Vietnam with heavy rain, flooding

VOV.VN - Typhoon Pakhar, the 14th tropical storm this year, has formed near the Philippines and could bring even more flooding to northern Vietnam, following the destruction caused by Hato this past week.

On August 25, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said the centre of Pakhar is currently located 16.8 degrees north latitude and 121.0 degrees east longitude near Luzon Island in the Philippines.

It will track in a north-westerly direction at a speed of 15-20km over the next 24 hours. While there may be some gusty winds associated with the typhoon, the main threat to Vietnam is the potential for heavy rainfall and potential for flooding and landslides.
