Party leader, President calls for humanitarian assistance for disadvantaged people

VOV.VN - Party leader and President Nguyen Phu Trong calls on businesses, philanthropists, and other people from all walks of life to continue assisting the disadvantaged people via the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

The top Vietnamese leader was speaking at a program called “Power of humanity 2019” organized by the Vietnam Red Cross Society in Hanoi on January 13 to raise funds for the poor and the victims of Agent Orange (AO) dioxin in the lead-up the Lunar New Year festival (Tet).

He said, “I appreciate the initiative of the Vietnam Red Cross Society for organizing the annual “Power of humanity” program with a sound purpose. On this occasion, I welcome and thank important contributions of sectors, agencies, organizations, businesses, philanthropists, and people to Red Cross Society’s humanitarian activities. Thanks to the contributions, millions of disadvantaged people have overcome difficulties and humanitarian values have been spread in the community.”

This year's program has raised nearly US$2.5 million and more than 2 million gifts. The organizing board announced that Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong is now honorable President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society.
