Typhoon Danas likely to strengthen further as it heads north-west

VOV.VN - Typhoon Danas is expected to move north-west at a speed of 15km per hour during the next 24 hours, strengthening further as it progresses, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The centre stated that at 7am on July 17, the centre of the typhoon was located at 18.2 degrees North latitude and 123.4 degrees East longitude in the north-eastern waters of Luzong island, the Philippines. Strongest winds close to the eye of the typhoon were estimated to be between 60km and 75km per hour.

Over the course of the next 24 hours, the typhoon is poised to head north-west at a speed of 15km per hour and is likely to intensify further as it progresses.

At 7 am on July 18, the centre of the typhoon is expected to be located about 140 km south of Taiwan with strongest winds reaching between 60 and 90 km per hour.

During the course of the next 48-72 hours, the typhoon is expected to track north north-west at a speed of around 15km per hour with the eye of the typhoon being positioned in the western coastal waters of Taiwan.

As a result of the impact of the storm, rains and rough seas are due to hit the north-eastern area of the East Sea.

In addition, due to the influence of the south-western monsoon, thunderstorms and showers will occur in coastal areas from Binh Thuan to Kien Giang, the Gulf of Thailand, and throughout the East Sea including the sea waters of Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.
