Typhoon Pabuk approaches Cape Ca Mau, risks of whirlwinds in southern region
VOV.VN - The first major storm of 2019, internationally known as Typhoon Pabuk, has approached Ca Mau province bringing risks of thunderstorms and whirlwinds to provinces throughout the south between January 3-4, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.
During the next 24 hours, the typhoon is expected to move west north-west at a speed of 15km per hour.
Due to the impact of the typhoon, there will be strong winds and rough sea conditions in the southern region of the Gulf of Thailand and the southern waters of Ca Mau, in particular, the waters from Ba Ria Vung Tau to Ca Mau (including the island district Con Dao) and from Ca Mau to Kien Giang (including the island district of Phu Quoc and Tho Chu island) with waves reaching up to 5 metres.
In addition, due to the impact of cold air, strong winds and rough seas will hit the northern area of the East Sea and the waters from Quang Ngai to Binh Thuan.
According to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre, on January 2, torrential rain affected localities in Ha Tinh to Binh Thuan, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa.
Due to the impact of cold air and the circulation of typhoon Pabuk, between January 3-4, provinces from Thua Thien Hue to Binh Thuan will experience rain.
The south-eastern region and south-western provinces of Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang will experience torrential rain with rainfall measuring at up to 100-200mm.
