Vietnam launches second phase of human trials for Nano Covax vaccine

VOV.VN - The second phase of trial injections for Nano Covax, the locally-produced COVID-19 vaccine, will be conducted on over 560 volunteers aged between 18 and 65, with the first trial shot being carried out on February 26, according to Nguyen Ngo Quang, deputy head of the Department of Science-Technology and Training.

The trial injection for the second phase is set to be implemented in two locations, including the Military Medical Academy in Hanoi and the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City in Long An province, with the aim of receiving volunteers in the fastest manner possible.

Quang emphasised that the Nano Covax vaccine produced by the Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Company proved to be safe during the first phase of human trials.

In the second phase, two groups of volunteers will be testing two doses of the vaccine, including a 50-microgram dose and a 75-microgram dose.

During the initial phase, volunteers were injected with three doses of the vaccine, including 25mcg, 50mcg, and 75mcg doses, recording positive immunogenicity.

After initially being launched on December 17, 2020, the clinical trial of the first phase of Nano Covax vaccine deployed by the Military Medical Academy has been completed.

Almost all volunteers were in a stable health condition following the trial, with a few cases showing signs of a mild fever, although this symptom abated after a few days.
