Vietnam records 9 more coronavirus cases on Feb. 24 afternoon
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed on February 24 afternoon that nine more coronavirus infections have been detected in Vietnam during the past 12 hours, all in Hai Duong province, the epicentre of the country’s latest coronavirus outbreak.
Six of the new cases are in Kim Lien commune, Kim Thanh district, a new coronavirus hotspot in Hai Duong. They tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus during their stay in the blockaded area.
The virus has spread to 13 cities and provinces across the country since it recurred less than a month ago. As many as 820 cases have been confirmed nationwide, with Hai Duong alone recording 636 cases.
According to Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long, the fresh outbreak has been brought under control in hotspots such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. No new cases have been reported in 10 cities and provinces during the past few days.
Localities have adopted drastic anti-coronavirus measures in line with instructions of the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control, said Minister Long.
The same day, 30 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after making a full recovery, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,790 since the first infection was detected in January 2020.
Among active cases, 82.5% show no clinical symptoms and 19 cases are in critical condition. Notably, an elderly patient in Da Nang has been relying on ECMO, a sophisticated therapy to save patients in critical condition. The patient has suffered from hypertension and diabetes for years.
