Worldwide celebrations underway for National Reunification Day

VOV.VN - Vietnamese expats in Cambodia, Russia, China, the Republic of Korea, and across the world have held numerous activities to mark the 44th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam and National Reunification, which took place on April 30, 1975.

A get-together of Overseas Vietnamese took place in Cambodia on April 27 to commemorate National Reunification Day, on April 30, and May Day, on May 1. Huynh Minh Phu, president of the Vietnam-Khmer association’s branch in Phnom Penh, highlights the important significance of both the 44th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam and National Reunification. He notes that the day brings great pride to Vietnamese people worldwide.

An art competition for the Vietnamese community was held in Moscow, Russia, on April 28 to celebrate the great event. The competition draw the participation of staff from ASEAN countries’ embassies in Moscow, local Vietnamese expats, and over 100 contestants.
Speaking at the event, Ngo Duc Manh, the Vietnamese ambassador to Russia, said the art competition was held as one of the activities to mark the ongoing Vietnam-Russia Friendship Year. He added that he hopes the occasion would help strengthen solidarity among Vietnamese expats in Russia, and boost mutual understanding between the people of Vietnam and their international friends.

The Vietnamese embassy in China held a gathering in Beijing on April 29 to commemorate National Reunification Day, on April 30, and May Day, on May 1. Dang Minh Khoi, Vietnamese ambassador to China, spoke with veterans about the great victory enjoyed by the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national liberation.
The Overseas Vietnamese association in Asan City in the Republic of Korea, hosted a football tournament. The event attracted hundreds of Vietnamese expats to mark the 44th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam and National Reunification.
A friendly football tournament was also held in Macau, China, on April 28 as part of the activities to celebrate the nation’s big holidays. The event saw the presence of many overseas Vietnamese who both took part in the tournament, and gave great support to the footballers.
