Coach Park Hang-seo to lead Vietnam U22 side at Toulon Cup 2020
VOV.VN - The Vietnam U22 national football team will be participating in the Toulon Cup in France from December 23, 2020, to January 7, 2021, according to Tran Quoc Tuan, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
Despite the current schedule, Tuan notes that the team’s itinerary could be adjusted depending on developments of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.
The national U22 side’s participation in the tournament had originally been planned to take place in June, but was pushed back as the Toulon Cup 2020 was moved to the end of the year as a result of the global COVID-19 outbreak.
At present, 10 teams are confirmed to compete in the Toulon Cup 2020, namely Japan, Australia, Vietnam, Congo, the Ivory Coast, Morocco, Mexico, England, France, and Romania.
The organisers are waiting for the acceptance of two additional teams before dividing the 12 teams into three groups ahead of the tournament’s knock-out rounds.
Taking part in the tournament is expected to provide a great opportunity for the U22 team to gain experience and prepare for the 31st SEA Games, which will be hosted by Vietnam next year.
The tournament is also considered to be a "miniature World Cup" which regularly takes place in France with the participation of 12 teams from around the globe.
