Facile wins for Vietnam badminton couple
Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh defeated Tan Jia Wei of Malaysia in the third round of the CELCOM AXIATA Malaysia International Challenge in Johor on November 16.

Minh, the number five seed, beat Tan 21-16, 21-15 in the men’s singles match that lasted just 35 minutes.
In another short match, Minh’s wife, Vu Thi Trang, beat Thamolwan Poopradubsil of Thailand 21-16, 21-12 in only 34 minutes in the women’s singles quarter-final. Trang is No 1 seed at the event.
In the next round, Minh will face second seed Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia, while Trang will meet Mattana Hemrachatanun of Thailand.
Earlier, Vietnamese pair Bao Minh and Duong Bao Duc lost 18-21, 14-21 to Shia Chun Kang and Tan Wee Gieen of Malaysia in a men’s doubles first round match.
The tournament, which has a total prize of US$20,000, will close on November 19.
