VOV.VN -Vietnamese badminton player Vu Thi Trang, world No.64, is into the quarter finals of the Maldives International Challenge 2019 after overcoming Kobita Dookhee of Mauritius, world No.328, 2-0 in the second round, and Ozge Bayrak of Turkey, world No.66, in the third round.

The third-round tie saw a surprise in the fifth minute as Thi Trang’s Turkish rival quit after falling 9-1 behind.

As a result, Trang enjoyed an easy win to earn her place in quarterfinals where she will face number seven seed Qi Xuefei of France, world No.55, on September 27.

Elsewhere, the other Vietnamese players competing in the tournament endured elimination, including Tien Minh, Cao Cuong, and Hai Dang.

Tien Minh, world No. 60, suffered a defeat at the hands of Russian Sergey Sirant, world No.96, while 19-year-old Hai Dang lost out to Indian Siril Verma, world No. 157, who also beat Tien Minh at the Vietnam Open 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Pham Cao Cuong was forced to retire from the tournament due to his health problem after his win against Niluka Karunaratne of Sri Lanka, world No.118.
