V.League 1 postponed due to impact of COVID-19
VOV.VN - All seven matches in the 13th round of the ongoing V.League 1 season have been delayed due to complicated developments occurring with regard to the country’s novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, as announced on May 6 by the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF).
The 13th round of matches had been scheduled to take place on May 7, with the decision to delay the fixtures made following several footballers from Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) FC coming into contact with an F1 case related to a COVID-19 patient.
The purpose of the delay is to ensure the safety of footballers amid the nation’s COVID-19 fight, with the VPF yet to identify a time for the league to resume.
It is highly likely that the tournament will be postponed until the end of July when the Vietnamese national men’s football team are in the process of preparing for international tournaments and club sides Viettel FC, Hanoi FC, and Sai Gon FC are gearing up to participate in continental competitions.
This marks the second time that the V.League 1 season has been delayed due to COVID-19 fears in 2021. Previously, the third round of matches was temporarily postponed in January before restarting in March.
