Over 3,000 tourists stuck in Co To island over storm

Ships between Co To island and Van Don port in the mainland of the northern province of Quang Ninh have yet to resume operation on July 17 due to rough sea, leaving about 3,500 tourists stranded.

Hoang Ba, Secretary of the Co To district Party Committee and Chairman of the district People’s Committee, visited visitors stuck on the island.

He also asked hotel and hostel owners to facilitate and reduce room rates for their guests, who could not end their trips as schedule.

The huge waves were the result of the tropical storm Talas, which landed in the central provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh at around 1 am on July 17. More rains of between 100-200mm were forecast for northeast and north central localities on July 17 and 18.
