St. Petersburg exhibition marks President Ho Chi Minh’s 133rd birthday

VOV.VN - The "St. Petersburg and Vietnam: Friendship Beyond Time" exhibition opened in the northern ancient capital of Russia on May 18 to mark the 133rd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh and the 100th anniversary of his arrival in Petrograd.

The exhibition saw many precious images and documents go on display showcasing President Ho during his visits to St. Petersburg, as well as detailing the Russian city's co-operation relationship with Vietnam across multiple fields.

In addition, the occasion also included images and documents regarding the co-operative ties of Leningrad city, now known as St. Petersburg, with Vietnam in the fields of economics, culture, science, and education, as well as co-operation between St. Petersburg and its sister city Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Piotr Tishchenko, chairman of the St.Petersburg Archives Committee, President Ho Chi Minh is an example of patriotism, steadfastness in the goal of national independence, and freedom, while he simultaneously laid the foundation for the friendly and co-operative ties between Russia and Vietnam. Therefore, studying and following both his experience and teachings is the responsibility of current generations.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi thanked and highly appreciated the efforts made by the authorities and relevant agencies of St. Petersburg in organising the exhibition.

Through the pictures and documents about President Ho Chi Minh and the relationship between the two countries on display, it shows that the people of St. Petersburg in particular, as well as the Russian Federation in general, in addition to the former Soviet Union, have very respectfully preserved them.

Through activities to celebrate the 133rd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh this year and specific exhibitions and seminars, it can be said that St. Petersburg remains eager to constantly strengthen bilateral ties in the current period.

Many of the Russian city’s initiatives are very suitable for the current relationship between the two countries, Ambassador Khoi said.

"We acknowledge and appreciate the interest of the municipal administration, the People's Council, and the people of St. Petersburg towards President Ho Chi Minh in particular and Vietnam in general," the Vietnamese diplomat added.

Ambassador Khoi asked leaders of the St. Petersburg Archives Committee, from the material of this exhibition, to build it into a mobile exhibition for more and more Russian people to enjoy, especially the young generation. This will allow the Vietnamese community living and working in Russia to better understand the history of relations between the two countries in order to continue to cultivate ties together.
