Vietnam donates additional US$600,000 in earthquake relief aid to Syria

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Red Cross Society will send another US$600,000 to Syria as part of efforts to help overcome the consequences of the February earthquake, raising the total aid from the Vietnamese Government and people to the Middle East nation to US$900,000.

This statement was made by Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son during telephone talks held on December 13 with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad.

Minister Son affirmed that the Vietnamese side always places importance to and hopes to further deepen the traditional ties of friendship and co-operation with Syria. The Government and people of Vietnam always bear in mind and highly value the precious support given by the Syrian people during the historical struggle for independence and current national construction, he said.

For his part, the Syrian official thanked the Government and people of Vietnam for their support.
The leaders and people of Syria greatly value ties with the nation, he said, expressing his positive impression on Vietnamese socio-economic achievements. He affirmed that the Syrian side always supports and hopes to learn from the Vietnamese experience in national development and international economic integration.

The two FMs discussed and agreed on a number of orientations aimed at beefing up future ties between the two countries in the areas of politics, diplomacy, and economics, while also co-ordinating with and supporting each other at multilateral organisations such as the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Minister Son used the occasion to invite his Syrian counterpart to visit the country at an appropriate time, with the invitation being graciously accepted.
