Mr Vinh was speaking at a national conference to implement ideology and culture work for 2006, which opened in Hanoi on January 2, 2006.

The conference highlighted the great achievements recorded by the ideological and cultural sector during the past 20 years as significant contributions to the national renewal process. However, delegates pointed out weaknesses and shortcomings of the sector in social and economic management as well as Party building and rectification.

In the past few years, the ideological and cultural sector has contributed to maintaining political stability and promoting the process of national renewal and defense, effectively implementing 10 action programmes mentioned in the resolutions of the 9^th National Party Congress.

On this occasion, Politburo member of the Central Party Committee and Head of its Commission for Ideology and Culture Nguyen Khoa Diem called on ideological and cultural workers to exert greater effort in renewing their activities to better meet the country’s requirements for sustainable development, fulfill all ideological and cultural tasks set for 2006 and resolutions to be adopted at the 10^th National Party Congress.
