Vietnam, Jordan examine ways to boost stronger ties

VOV.VN - Both Vietnamese and Jordanian diplomats have expressed a belief that based on the sound friendship, co-operation, and potential, mutual relations between the two nations will develop in an increasingly effective manner moving forward.

Talks were held between Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Leena Al-Hadid of Jordan as part of the former’s visit to Jordan starting from December 8.

During the course of the trip, the Vietnamese diplomat also held working sessions with Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply Dana Al-Zoubi and Secretary General of the Ministry of Investment Zaher Al-Qatarneh.

The meetings offered both sides the chance to express their delight at the recent positive developments in bilateral relations. Deputy Minister Hieu outlined that he appreciated the phone call between the two Foreign Ministers in June and thanked Jordan for their timely support provided to Vietnamese victims of a toxic gas explosion that hit Aqaba port in June. He suggested that the Jordanian Government continue to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to live and work in Jordan.

Regarding further economic co-operation, amid the global economy facing numerous challenges, two-way trade turnover in 2021 reached US$178 million, up 18% on-year.

However, these results still do not match the potential of the two countries, especially when the economies of both nations are complementary and therefore have ample room to record stronger development.

At the meeting, the Jordanian diplomat welcomed this visit of Deputy Minister Hieu, affirming the importance and desire to further strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.

Both sides agreed on a score measures aimed at raising the efficiency of future bilateral collaboration, such as intensifying all-level delegation exchanges and people-to-people diplomacy, ramping up co-operation, information sharing, and co-ordination between ministries and agencies. This is along with encouraging businesses to boost trade and investment links and considering the possibility of signing a number of co-operation agreements to fine-tune the legal framework for bilateral ties.

The Vietnamese side therefore asked Jordan to share its experience with and help the nation in the Halal industry, along with forging tourism links.

The officials expressed their confidence that on the basis of the strong friendship, co-operation, and potential, the mutual relationship will grow stronger in the future.

Both sides used the occasion to compare notes on some regional and international of shared concern.
Earlier, during his trip to Turkey, Deputy Minister Hieu, who is also chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, met with representatives of the Vietnamese Association and the Vietnamese community in Turkey.
