Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga has rejected a US human right report, saying it provides biased information about the real situation in Vietnam.

“The US Department of State’s Human Rights Report 2009 once more made biased remarks which are based on inaccurate information about the real situation in Vietnam,” Ms Nga said in response to reporters’ queries in Hanoi on March 12.

She confirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of respecting and ensuring people’s fundamental human rights, and said that over the years Vietnam has made great achievements in ensuring human rights in all fields from the civil, political, and economic, to the cultural and social aspects.

It is the Vietnamese people who have benefited from this fact and they clearly understand this, said Ms Nga, adding that the international community has acknowledged and lauded such achievements.

The spokesperson said Vietnam is willing to cooperate and hold dialogues with nations and international organisations to promote mutual understanding about differences, including those regarding human rights.
