The U21 Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper Football Tournament is being held in the central highland province of Gia Lai from September 25-October 4 with the participation of six domestic and international teams.
They are divided into two groups with Vietnam’s Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper, Qatar’s Aspire, Malaysia in Group A and Iran, Thailand and Singapore in group B.
The winner of tournament will receive a cash prize of US$12,000, the runner-up US$7,000 and the third place US$5,000.
The organizing board will also present US$3,000 for the most fair play team and other awards for the best player, top scorer and best goal keeper.
In the opening match, the Thanh Nien team easily beat Malaysia 2-0 with goals scored by Hoang Nhat Nam and Nguyen Huu Khoi in the 85th and 90th minute.
Nam won the US$200 award for being the first player to score at the tournament and the media vote for man of the match.
