Heavy rain causes traffic delays in Hanoi metro area
VOV.VN - Scattered showers and storms are expected to return to the Hanoi metropolitan area tonight, Thursday, August 17, and into tomorrow after heavy rain caused traffic headaches earlier in the day.
Hundreds of motorists were stuck along thoroughfares throughout the city Thursday morning as the rain caused water to completely cover many roads and authorities to shut down many streets. |
Traffic in all directions at the Nguyen Chanh-Mac Thai Tong intersections in Cau Giay District is at a standstill shortly before 8am. |
I got on Nguyen Chanh street and there was nowhere I could even go, says one motorbike driver. |
It was like we're all going to be stuck here for a long time, the driver says. |
According to the Centre for Hydro Meteorological Forecast, rains are concentrated in the northwest area of the city with 20-40 mm the most common aggregate amount of rainfall. |
Rains are expected to continue throughout the evening and into tomorrow with some locations expected to receive 50-80 mm of rainfall and a few as much as 100 mm. |
Many school districts send notifications to parents around 8am that district buses have also been delayed due to the weather. |
There is no word yet on any school cancelations for tomorrow, August 18. |
