WTO hails Vietnamese contributions to multilateral trade system

VOV.VN - Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), applauded active Vietnamese contributions to the organisation on March 18, especially the outcomes of the WTO's 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) which was held from February 26 to March 2 in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Receiving Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN, the WTO, and other international organizations in Geneva, who had come to submit the Vietnamese State President’s credentials, she suggested that the nation continue to contribute to unfinished contents.

This includes trying to bring Package 1 of the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies into effect before June and participating in promoting negotiations on Package 2, thus further contributing to the UN Millennium Goals on sustainable development.

Ambassador Dung affirmed that the nation persists with its open-door policy and international integration. Indeed, it remains an active and responsible member of the WTO and always values and supports the multilateral trade system with the WTO at its core.

He appreciated the results achieved at the MC13 and the Okonjo-Iweala’s personal contributions to the success of the conference, affirming the commitment of the Vietnamese delegation to maintaining its close and active co-ordination with the WTO secretariat and other WTO members to fully and effectively implement the results of the MC13 in the time to come.
