HCM City hospital in lockdown after 3 staff test positive for COVID-19

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City authorities moved to cordon off its Hospital for Tropical Diseases for disinfection and contact tracing after three of its employees tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on June 12.

Tang Chi Thuong, deputy director of the Municipal Department of Health, confirmed the news, saying the hospital has been locked down for epidemiological investigations.

Two of the patients work at the information technology division and the third patient works at the administration division, according to the HCM City Centre for Diseases Control

Local authorities scrambled to carry out contact tracing and take epidemic prevention measures at the hospital and the patients’ places of residence.

Sources say the hospital still receives and treats patients normally as the COVID-19 patient working at the administration division did not have any contact with other patients.

The Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Cu Chi field hospital have recently been transformed into healthcare facilities to receive and treat COVID-19 patients only.

Currently HCM City is one of Vietnam’s largest coronavirus hotspots. The outbreak remains complicated locally though the chain of transmission at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian congregation in Go Vap district has been kept in check.

Several cases have been sporadically detected in the city and the source of infection is yet to be identified.
