ASIAD women’s football: Vietnam beat Nepal in Group D opener
VOV.VN - Vietnamese women defeated their Nepalese opponents 2-0 in their Group D opening game in Hangzhou, China, on September 22.
After the referee’s whistle, coach Mai Duc Chung’s players dominated ball possession, but they could not break Nepalese defense line.
To break the deadlock, Chung made some substitutions in the second half and his tactic proved effective.
In the 53rd minute, the Nepalese goalkeeper pushed away Bich Thuy’s shot from outside the penalty area, but Hai Yen was present in time to score an opening goal.
Nepalese players had no choice but to launch counterattacks and they sometimes challenged goalkeeper Kim Thanh but did not succeed.
Twenty-one minutes later, it was Bich Thuy again who ran and headed in from a 6m distance, extending Vietnam’s lead.
Stunning Nepal 2-0 in their opener, Vietnam, look confident to take on Bangladesh on September 25 and Japan on September 28.
