Vietnam to host first WBC Muay Thai in mid-July

VOV.VN - Both local and foreign fighters are set to gather for the Muay Thai Rampage (MTR) - The Rising Stars, a World Boxing Council (WBC) Muay Thai tournament which will be held in Vietnam for the first time this July.

The event, due to take place from July 16 at Saigon Sports Club in Ho Chi Minh City, will see competition between Vietnamese and international athletes.

Truong Cao Minh Phat of Vietnam (world No. 15) will face Hicham Boulahri of Morocco (world No. 17) in the men’s Super-Featherweight category.

Elsewhere, SEA Games 32 champion Huynh Ha Huu Hieu (world No. 5) will take on young Thai fighter Pornthip Khamthongphanow (world No. 7) in the women’s Minimumweight category.

Other Vietnamese fighters, including Huynh Hoang Phi, Ly Duoi, Tran Quoc Tuan, Vo Quang Vu, Dang Quynh Bich, and Nguyen Thi Lam Nhu, have also registered to compete for WBC Muay Thai Vietnamese national titles in the Lightweight, Welterweight, and Super Bantamweight categories.

The largest Muay Thai tournament in Vietnam will jointly be organised by Shadow Entertainment Co. Ltd. and the Ho Chi Minh City Muay Federation. The tournament provide Vietnam’s leading Muay Thai athletes more opportunities to enter into high-quality competitions against some of the world's top fighters.

Besides showcasing aggressive and competitive bouts, the event will seek best fighters for international competitions and bring world-class events to entertain Vietnamese supporters.
