Oil tanker hijacked off Malaysia

An oil tanker carrying 900,000 litres of diesel was hijacked after leaving a Malaysian port, according to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

The MT Vier Harmoni was reported missing on August 16 and search was launched one day later, MMEA said. The agency believed the ship is now off the Indonesian island of Batam.

The ship was sailing from Tanjung Pelepas port in Malaysia’s Johor state on August 15 when it was seized. Its cargo is reportedly worth about 1.57 million ringgit (US$392,795).

The hijackers are not identified yet.
