150 domestic and foreign firms attend VietShrimp 2023
VOV.VN - The fourth version of VietShrimp Aquaculture International Fair (VietShrimp 2023), officially kicked off on April 12 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, drawing 150 domestic and foreign seafood businesses.
Upon addressing the opening ceremony, Nguyen Viet Thang, chairman of the Vietnam Fisheries Association, emphasised that the Vietnamese shrimp industry has witnessed remarkable developments over recent years, adding that many businesses have applied advanced technologies to shrimp farming as part of efforts to improve production efficiency and adapt to challenges posed by climate change.
Thang underlined the necessity of raising the value chain to enhance the overall competitiveness of Vietnamese shrimp in both domestic and international markets moving forward.
Duong Tan Hien, standing vice chairman of Can Tho city’s People's Committee, said the country’s shrimp industry has set a target of 750,000 hectares of aquaculture area with shrimp output reaching 980,000 tonnes and export turnover hitting over US$4.3 billion this year.
As a means of achieving the set goals, he underscored the importance of deploying synchronous solutions to develop the shrimp sector by strengthening connectivity among managers, scientists, businessmen, and farmers.
He expressed his belief that the 3-day event will contribute to promoting cooperation and developing the Vietnamese seafood industry in a sustainable manner, thereby protecting the environment, and further enhancing the value of Vietnamese shrimp.
